Numicon Intervention and SEN - Clarification
We’ve had a lot of enquiries in the last few months from teachers and LA Staff who are (perhaps understandably!) confused about how our new Numicon Intervention Programme fits in with the rest of the ‘Numicon Approach’. I hope that a few words here and the attachments below may help to clear things up.
Initially, we called our Intervention Programme (designed to support Every Child Counts but relevant to any school interested in maths intervention for 6-11 year olds) the ‘Closing the Gap with Numicon Intervention Programme’ or CtGNIP for short but found that this created A LOT of confusion given that one of our kits (for Intervention and SEN) is called Closing the Gap... so now it is just the Numicon Intervention Programme!
Please see this diagram that shows the Professional Development options, core resources in schools and resources for at home (where applicable) for each of Quality First, SEN and Intervention.
The second diagram shows the difference between the Closing the Gap Teaching Guide and the Intervention Programme Manual.
I hope this helps but please do get in touch if you have any other questions...
