Numicon Kits
This section contains details about al of our kits, which form the core of our range of resources. If you are unsure which Kit is most appropriate for you and your pupils, please see the 'Who is Numicon for?' section of the website for advice on the resources most appropriate for your situation.
Please also see the getting started videos for a introduction to 'what is in the box?' for each of our different Kits.
The most important feature of all of our core Kits (Firm Foundations, Closing the Gap, Kit One and Kit Two) is the teaching files. These are included in the Kits but are also available seperately. The Teaching Files for the Kits listed above are set out in the following divided sections:
Getting Started Guide - A useful introduction for new users
Teaching Guide - A vital part of the Kit, which supports teachers' subject knowledge of ket mathematical ideas and provides suggestons for teaching approaches, organisation and the learning environment.
Programme of Activities - East to follow and step by step activities.
Assessment Tools - A variety of tools to help monitor pupil progress.
Photocopy Masters - Master copies of resources used in many of the activities. This is the only part of the Numicon printed teaching materials that can be reproduced.
1st Steps with Numicon in the Nursery
>> Designed for pre-school settings 1st Steps with Numicon in the Nursery Kit gives children a sound start to their maths understanding, and boosts practitioners’ maths subject knowledge
1st Steps with Numicon - At Home Kit
>> This Kit is designed for parents and carers of pre-school children aged 3 - 5 and introduces early ideas about number and arithmetic.
Numicon Firm Foundations Kit
>> Suitable for children aged 3-5 in schools and nurseries, the activities in this kit lay cover the Foundation Stage curriculum and lay the foundations for successful mathematics by establishing an early understanding of number relationships.
Closing the Gap with Numicon
>> This kit has been designed specifically for pupils of any age who are experiencing significantly greater difficulty learning mathematics than the majority of pupils of their age.
Numicon Kit 1
>> The Kit 1 teaching programme builds on the maths ideas met in the Foundation Stage activities. Suitable for pupils age 5-6 working at English National Curriculum levels 1 and 2.
Numicon Kit 2
>> The Kit 2 teaching programme builds on the maths ideas met in Kit 1. New users should be familiarised with Numicon Shapes and Number Rods before starting the teaching activities in this Kit.
Numicon Homework Activities
>> Homework Activities are designed to enable children to practice at home what they are learning in school through playful activities and games, which means that parents and carers are not expected to ‘teach’ their children.
Investigations with Numicon
>> 10 challenging open-ended mathematical investigations with a low threshold and high ceiling. Aimed at KS2 and extendable to KS3 levels, for pupils aged 8 to 11.
Conversion Kits
>> Conversion Kits provide just the printed materials and parts not included in earlier kits. These combine with the Firm Foundations Kit or Kit 1 to give the full teaching programme without duplicating materials.
